The Spectres of Karøn
With the interval between ‘now’ and that which has been ‘preserved’ continuously shrinking; The Specters of Karøn explores a near future where the preservation of heritage demands a prospective character, rather than a retrospective one.
In direct contrast to the pristine modernism of Brasilia, which remains static and empty, the transient and dynamic culture of the Kayapo - expressed by the rich and intense practice of animism - provides the perfect analogy of “substance” and “culture,” that Brasilia is missing and necessitates.
Subsequently, the project not only aims to re-activate the static city of Brasilia through expressions of neo-tribalism, temporality and informality, but further suggests, that this new and dynamic practice can lead to the adaptive preservation of a Neo-Kayapo heritage.
